Community Invited: Arthur Schwartz Keynote Speaker at Luncheon, 5/5,in Stamford; Fairfield, Southport,Trumbull, Westport leaders

Arthur Schwartz, cookbook author, radio personality and food maven, will be the keynote speaker at the
Women’s Auxiliary of The Jewish Home for the Elderly’s 40th Annual Spring Luncheon and Boutique on Monday, May 5,
2008, at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel.
FAIRFIELD - The Women’s Auxiliary of The Jewish Home for the Elderly is pleased to announce that its 40th Annual Spring
Luncheon and Boutique will take place on Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel. Arthur Schwartz, cookbook
author, radio personality and food maven, will be the keynote speaker. More than 350 guests are expected to attend.
Ilene Feldman, of Fairfield, and Marlene Fischer, of Southport, are the co-chairs of this event.
Schwartz is regarded as one of the country’s foremost experts on food, cooking, culinary history, restaurants, and restaurant
history. He was the restaurant critic and Executive Food Editor of the New York Daily News, and has a cooking
school in Paestum, Italy. Schwartz has published five award-winning cookbooks; he will be signing his new book,
Arthur Schwartz’s Jewish Home Cooking: Yiddish Recipes Revisited, before and after the luncheon program. In addition, he will lead a discussion on Yiddish food and participate in a Q&A session.
"The New York Times has called Arthur ‘a walking Google of food and restaurant knowledge,’"
said Feldman, "His exhaustive knowledge coupled with his humor and insights make him an especially ‘appetizing’ speaker.
We are delighted to be featuring the entertaining ‘Food Maven’ for our 40th annual celebration."
Debbie Ross, of Trumbull, chair of the Boutique portion of the program, has arranged to bring back popular past vendors
while adding exciting new vendors as well.
"Our Annual Spring Luncheon raises money to enhance the lives of the residents of the Home," said Barbara Leder, of Westport,
President of the Women’s Auxiliary. "The funds support important programming, such as pet therapy and music therapy,
intergenerational programs, the Osteoporosis Program of Excellence and other special projects. We are looking forward to
spending the day with our old and new friends throughout Fairfield County whose support and participation enable us to
execute our mission."
