FAIRFIELD - Recently, 6/10/08, the Greater Bridgeport Elder Services Council and the Coalition for the Advocacy,
Prevention, and Elimination of Older Adult Abuse in Greater Bridgeport (CAPE) presented "STOP Elder Abuse", a conference
hosted at The Watermark, Bridgeport. The keynote speaker, Attorney John DeMattia, State's Attorney Elder Abuse Unit,
described numerous situations of financial abuse impacting elders and the importance of putting an end to this
unfortunate situation by providing education and guidance to seniors and everyone who cares about them.
"Most seniors in the Greater Bridgeport area are surrounded by kind family members and loyal friends," said
Laura Snow, Coordinator of The Institute on Aging and The Center for Elder Abuse Prevention at The Jewish Home
for the Elderly, Fairfield. "However, there are many seniors in situations of loneliness or experiencing other
factors which put them at risk for abuse, whether financial, physical, or emotional. CAPE's mission is to raise
awareness throughout our community toward the goal of eliminating elder abuse. We want to be sure the seniors who
built the neighborhoods and businesses we now enjoy can live their lives with respect and dignity."
If you are interested in more information about CAPE or would like to learn how you can become involved, contact
