FAIRFIELD – Participants from throughout Fairfield County enjoyed a day of golf and tennis at the George Lipton Golf & Tennis Invitational hosted by the Men’s Club of The Jewish Home for the Elderly at Rolling Hills Country Club in Wilton recently (6/23/08). MCM Inc was the first-ever Tournament Sponsor. Despite forecasts for rain and thunderstorms, the day’s sponsors were enthusiastic and the participants were determined to play regardless of the overcast skies. Dr. Stewart Gross, President of the Men’s Club, of Easton, and Dr. Stephen Moskowitz, Past President of the Men’s Club, of Westport, were the co-chairs of the event. This event raised $130,770.
“As always, it was a wonderful day and we appreciated everyone’s participation,” stated Dr. Gross, Men’s Club President. “I would like to express a special thank you to all our sponsors and benefactors for their generous and ongoing support of the Men’s Club and of the Home.”
The Invitational began at 7:15 a.m. with the Pro-Am Tournament. After the teams completed the beautiful 18-hole course, they headed to the Clubhouse to enter their scores and enjoy an elaborate buffet. ConnectiCare, David S. Lapine, Inc., Dr. Stewart Gross, Dr. Stephen P. Moskowitz, Fredric T. Beitman & Dean Ratick, Albert Hallac, Weston Capital Management, JSF & F, MER/KSPK Group of Merrill Lynch, Perkins Eastman Architects, PC, Dennis B. Poster, The NIA Group, LLC and Wiggin & Dana all sponsored the Luncheon.
As the teams were relaxing and unwinding from their morning, the afternoon golfers were preparing to tee off and the tennis players were gearing up for the first serve of the afternoon’s tennis tournament.
The afternoon golf tournament was marked by friendly competition and a unanimous cheer when the sun broke through the clouds. Any player lucky and skilled enough to get a hole-in-one at the third hole would win the Lexus, sponsored by New Country Lexus of Westport, parked nearby for inspiration.
At the conclusion of the golf and tennis tournaments participants enjoyed the Cocktail Hour sponsored by Harold and Shari Levy, Iridian Asset Management. Dinner offered an array of international specialties and an incredible selection of desserts sponsored by Robert D. Russo, M.D. and Associates Radiology. The scores were tallied, winners announced and prizes awarded amidst much camaraderie. Successful bidders in the Silent Auction won boat excursions, jewelry, and an assortment of other luxury items generously donated by area businesses and community members.
