Special Care (Dementia / Alzheimer's)

The Special Care Units at The Jewish Home are designed for individuals with mild to moderate dementing illness and are tailored to meet the unique needs and interests of each person.

Each of our two Special Care Units is a secure yet open environment including a living room, dining room, and a full kitchen where residents relax in a home-like setting safely returning to their former lifestyles. Professionally led programs, such as cooking, baking, and other task-oriented activities, engage the participants in familiar behaviors and pleasurable pastimes. Soft muted tones, warm lighting, and "fireplaces" enhance the social areas.

Residents are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities which promote feelings of productivity and accomplishment. This type of socialization helps maintain self-esteem and enrich our residents' lives with dignity and purpose.

Our compassionate, highly trained and understanding caregivers are sensitive to the residents' needs for clinical approaches based on behavioral research. Staff members of our Special Care Units receive continuing education to maximize their capacity to provide support and care.

Staff interventions are developed with the primary goals of fostering dignity and independence. We help individuals care for themselves, express their individuality and perform at their highest level in a community of understanding.
